A Very Beatles Christmas December 30, 2006
Posted by Ben in : Music , add a commentI racked up on Beatles albums this Christmas, and that’s okay: I asked for it, and I’m enjoying it all. Albums I got were: Beatles for Sale, Rubber Soul, Revolver, the white album, and Abbey Road. In the liner notes (sleeve notes) of Beatles for Sale I came across this statement, written by Derek Taylor, that I find quite hilarious given the fact that we’re in the year 2006 (almost 2007) and I requested so much Beatles music for Christmas 40 years after it was recorded:
There’s priceless history between these covers. None of us is getting any younger. When, in a generation or so, a radio-active, cigar-smoking child picnicking on Saturn, asks you what the Beatle affair was all about—‘Did you actually know them?’—don’t try to explain all about the long hair and the screams! Just play the child a few tracks from this album and he’ll probably understand what it was all about. The kids of AD 2000 will draw from this music much the same sense of well being and warmth as we do today. Derek Taylor, 1964
So true, so true.
Pimp Your Stroller?! December 23, 2006
Posted by Liz in : General, Random Stuff , add a commentThis truly has to be one of the funniest contests I have ever come across. The site Planet Bump has a contest going where you enter your “pimped up stroller” into a photo contest to see which kid has the slickest ride. Much to my viewing disappointment there are no entries entered at this time to look and laugh at. Perhaps if the contest is done again next year we might just have to enter it for our own amusement.

“Pimp your stroller holiday competition Homey for the holidays! Yo, Yo, Yo, baby! ‘Tis the season to deck the white walls! So, break out the spinners, the spoilers and the speakers and live large with the coolest, custom ride on the playground!”
A Wonderful Baby Shower December 22, 2006
Posted by Liz in : Baby, General , 1 comment so farA big thank you to everyone that came and joined in on the fun and celebration of baby “Thumper”. I have a wonderful time and I do hope that you enjoyed yourself as well. It really is over whelming to know just how much stuff that babies need and now we have a good start and the basics to build on. Momma is just thankful that a new laptop computer isn’t one of those (much to daddy’s dismay and disappointment)! The photos will be put into the photo gallery soon.
Oh and at the shower the Baby Bingo game determined that “Thumper” will be be born at 12 AM with only a 15 minute labor, weight 8 lbs, 20 inches long, but sadly will be 10 days late!
We also learned which baby animals go with what mothers… very amusing and educational… making us wish that we watched more Animal Planet and paid more attention to it… see if you can figure it out with out googling or going to Animal Planet for the correct answers.
Mother: Alpaca, Crocodiles, Giraffe, Hare, Lion, Monkey, Mouse, Opossum, Ostrich, Oyster, Pigeon, Platypus, Swan, Turkey, & Zebra.
Baby: Calf, Cub, Hatchling, Colt, Joey, Cria, Chick, Infant, Leveret, Pinkie, Spat, Puggle, Squeaker, Cygnet, Poult
I have the answers and will let you know if you are correct or not if you leave your answers in the comment box. Good luck!
Stuff Video December 18, 2006
Posted by Ben in : Random Stuff , 1 comment so farAs a perfectly good waste of time, I grabbed some old video that friends of mine and I shot back in 1995 when I was in high school and did a little bit of audio clean up, lightened the video a bit, and added titles. Here’s the result. Enjoy.
Two Ways to Achieve World Peace December 12, 2006
Posted by Ben in : Musings , add a commentJust a quick note to share a thought that’s been going through my mind a lot lately . . .
When I was growing up, there was a lot of talk of trying to achieve the ever-elusive “World Peace,” but I haven’t heard the phrase “world peace” in a long while. Maybe I’m just not listening for it. Nevertheless, I think world peace is within our grasp, and, as I see it, there are two ways to achieve it:
- Kill everyone who does not share your same values, culture, ideology, and worldview. Then, all that are left are those who agree with you (or who are too scared to disagree). Instant peace!
- This is the more difficult way, but I think it could be possible. Everyone in the world must agree (by social contract) to tolerate those with conflicting values, cultures, and ideologies. They do not have to accept these conflicting beliefs. They do not have to regard them as valid. They can continue to disagree with them whole-heartedly, but the difference is that they must accept without precondition the humans who hold these beliefs. We don’t have to live in harmony, just in peace. This isn’t something that can be accomplished through a treaty between governments; it must be a conscious decision on the part of every member of the human race.
So, call me an idealist, but I’m also a realist, too. The latter is the preferred approach, but how do we achieve it? Well, we kill off all the adults and raise the babies to be tolerant of others.
That, or we instill in our own children a desire for peace, and we tackle this problem through the slow, laborious process of raising one generation at a time to be better than the previous at solving problems and resolving conflict. Is there any hope for the human race, or are we, at heart, destined to remain creatures of conflict with a desire for power?

Nine More Weeks! (Should I be scared or excited… how about both!) December 1, 2006
Posted by Liz in : Baby , add a commentHard to believe “Thumpers” due date is only 9 weeks away. It seems so close and yet far away now, and my head is panicing wondering what all is left to do and if I have enough time to get it done. Just where did that “to do list” go anyways? I guess finding that list is on my new “to do list” now… oh well.
The pregnancy is going well. I try not to complain too much as I seem to be having a better time at it then a good many of pregnant mom’s I have heard talking. There are a few times in the day when I am so focused on work that I even forget that I am pregnant surprisingly… but when I do well the baby (whom I lovingly refer to as “Thumper”. Yes that lovable little rabbit from “Bambi” that pounds away on the ground with its hind leg.) keeps reminding me that it is there by kicking my right ribs… always in the same place too! Really though I have little to complain about other then the sore right ribs, getting tired so early in the day, and the restless leg syndrome that robs me of a good bit of sleep at night.
I will admit though I picked up a book from Boarders that has made me laugh. A book that I pick up when I am secretly thinking to myself that I am ready for Thumper to come on out. What is the name of this book you ask? Well, it’s called: “Pregnancy Sucks (What to Do When Your Miracle Makes You Miserable)” I know, I know, what a great name for a book you say! Truly it is a good book that will make you smile and give you ideas on how to make it through and past those uncomfortable moments, feelings, and depression. For those that are pregnant or thinking about it you really should buy this book; you’ll be glad you did! I have to say that my favorite advise in there so far is on how to handle restless leg syndrome. “A heating pad kept on your legs will help, but a husband always close by to massage those legs is always better. Now if the husband isn’t proving helpful, kick him; he’ll never know it wasn’t the restlessness that caused that kick!” =D
Well I have posted photos in the gallery of us working on the baby’s room for those that are curious and want a peek in there. I’ll post more photos of the finished room once we are done refinishing the dresser and get it back in the room. Keeping my fingers crossed I do hope that project will be finished this Sunday. Ahhh Sundays, the day where Ben becomes my slave… errr I mean the day he puts on his “handy man hat”. It seems to be the only day where our schedules seem to work together where we both can work on the bigger projects together.
I suppose that is all I have to share for now… at least that is all my tired eyes are going to stay awake to let me type. Good night everyone and huggles to you all. =D
